Outsider Series The Outsider series came about through my discovering pages of random doodles while perusing my son’s high school notebooks. I was drawn to them specifically because they were done without any intention of being seen and were not meant to be art. They might be simply mindless scribbles, or perhaps they contain some insight into his thoughts. At any rate, they became a vocabulary of shapes that grew into a language I have found rich and fruitful for exploration. Allowing some of the imagery to escape the edges of the traditional rectangular frame is particularly interesting to me, and echoes the outsider quality of being an adolescent.
